Martin B. Saunders

Training Manager

Martin Saunders has over 40 years' experience as a Wellsite Geologist and technical training manager. He specializes in wellsite operations and Petroleum Geology training and has been teaching oilfield courses for 25 years. Martin holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Geology from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and began his career with EXLOG (now part of Baker Hughes) in 1974, working at wellsite before joining the training department of Baker Hughes in 1982. He was responsible for all internal training for Baker Hughes in the Europe/Africa/Middle East Division and was also responsible for the expansion of external commercial training.

Martin has presented courses throughout the world to to personnel from major operators and service companies including BP, Exxon, Anadarko, MOL, Chevron, Maersk, Total, Wintershall, Perenco, ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, GDF Suez, Tullow Oil, Spirit Energy, Ophir Energy, Baker Hughes and Halliburton among many others.

Mick Simpson has over 45 years' experience in the Oil and Gas Industry with more than 25 years' experience in Operations and Development. Beginning his career as a mudlogger in worldwide locations including North America, the North Sea and the Middle East, Mick later pioneered some of the earliest geosteering techniques as a wellsite geologist for Maersk Oil in both Qatar and Denmark. As an operations geologist he has specialized in the planning and delivery of horizontal and ERD chalk wells for operators including Maersk Oil (Total) and AkerBP, but Mick has led operations in diverse geological environments such as Rotliegend tight gas, Jurassic HPHT, deepwater West Africa and Palaeocene turbidites for operators including Petrocanada, ConocoPhillips, Dana and BP.

Recently Mick has delivered renewable energy projects including Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) planning activities for Neptune Energy in the Netherlands.

​

Mick continues active involvement in the wellsite and operations geology community, presenting at conferences including EAGE and FORCE.

Dr Adam K. Moss

Core Analysis Expert

Adam Moss is a core analysis expert with over 25 years' experience working in Petrophysics. He has designed and presented training courses internationally on a wide range of topics. From 2006 to 2016, Adam was the Global Group Technical Authority for Core Analysis at BG Group, responsible for all of BG Group's coring and core analysis projects worldwide. This included defining best-practice workflows and working with assets and multi-functional teams to assure core analysis data was of the best quality and used appropriately. Prior to joining BG Group, Adam was a Senior Petrophysicist at ResLab UK, responsible for all aspects of the company's NMR core analysis services.

Adam has an established track record in teaching and research in academia, working at the Imperial College Royal School of Mines from 1995 to 2001 and since 2015 as Honorary Assistant Professor at Herriot-Watt University. Adam holds a PhD in the characterisation of Sandstone pore structure, and served as president of the London Petrophysical Society from 2010-12.

Graham Eaton is a drilling performance expert with over 38 years experience as an Operations Geologist and Drilling Advisor with AkerBP, Tullow Oil, BP, Maersk, Chevron and others. Graham holds a BSc (Hons) in geology from Cardiff University. Beyond the oil and gas industry, Graham is an award-winning nature photographer.

Dr T. Huw Sheppard

Petroleum Geology Expert

Huw Sheppard is a Petroleum Geologist, Sedimentologist and Stratigrapher specializing in drilling and abandonment operations. Graduating in 1997 with a BSc in Geology from Cardiff University, he obtained an MSc in Sedimentology and its Applications from the University of Reading in 1998 before completing his PhD in Upper Carboniferous Sequence Stratigraphy at Oxford Brookes University in 2001. From 2001 he worked as a Survey Geologist for the British Geological Survey before he became a Consultant Wellsite Geologist in 2008. From 2010 to 2015 he worked as a Senior Operations Geologist with Maersk Oil in Copenhagen. In 2016 he joined Hess ApS in Copenhagen as an Operations Geologist. In 2017 he joined AkerBP ASA in Stavanger, Norway as a Development Geologist before joining Neptune Energy Norway as an Operations Geologist in March 2018. In 2017 he led the technical development of Stag's P&A and Carbon Storage services as an independent consultant before joining Stag in September 2019. He is an accredited Chartered Geologist (CGeol) and European Geologist (EurGeol).
